SILVER SUITCASE--True story: Silver aluminum suitcases, made famous by the brand Halliburton, were originally designed by Betsy's father! He won a competition for designing things to be made from the many thousands of airplanes Rosy the Riveter ladies built during World War II that were just wasting space in storage fields after the war was over. The wings and bodies were covered with sheet aluminum because it was very lightweight. They used it to form outside coverings of the suitcases. It was branded ''Air Line Luggage'' and we have two of the originals in storage somewhere! Unfortunately, the company Al worked for made all of the money because they owned the design patents their employees created while they worked there (common practice with engineers of all sorts). I suppose, sometime in the next few years, Halliburton bought the rights to the design. Al died in 1957 when Betsy was just six months old. Nana never remarried because she said she never met another man as good as Al. (He actually hated being called ''Al'' instead of Albert; that's why Betsy is Betsy and not Elizabeth. Kinda silly, I think). Okay, back to business...
Our Silver Suitcase:
- Is made of plastic instead of aluminum.
- One handle extends so your doll can tilt it and pull it.
- There are two other handles, on top and side.
- On its two sturdy wheels.
- Inside the white plastic looks like it is quilted fabric on top and bottom surfaces.
- The back even has a built-in cupholder! I have one on my (cheap, green) suitcase, too, and it is really handy! People always comment when they see me put my water down.
- Measures up at 6-1/2 inches tall (handle down) x 4-1/4 wide x 3-1/2 deep (od-outside dimensions)
